Viswa Energy Efficiency Management System (VEEMS) hardware and software package has been approved by the independent MRV accrediting agency Verifavia, to meet the requirements of data collection, storage, and presentation as per EU requirements.

As a first step towards cutting greenhouse gas emissions from maritime transport, the EU requires operators of ships exceeding 5,000 GT to monitor and report their carbon emissions and transport work on all voyages to, from and between EU ports.

The strategy consists of three consecutive steps:
  1. Monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon emissions from ships
  2. GHG reduction targets for the maritime transport sector
  3. Further measures, including Market-Based Measures (MBM)
The first step of the strategy is the design of a robust Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system of carbon emissions for ships exceeding 5,000 gross tonnage (GT) on all voyages to, from and between EU ports applicable from 2018.

31st August 2017 is the final date to submit monitoring plan to independent verifiers. With just 180+ days left, the industry is expected to suffer from the “Ketch-up” effect.
