By invitation from the European Commission, Julien Dufour, CEO of Verifavia, is in Brussels today to participate in the first meeting of the European Commission's Shipping MRV subgroup of experts on verification and accreditation.

The group is working under the European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF) and its objectives are:

  • To identify elements on verification matters and accreditation processes that can be translated in the delegated acts required pursuant Art. 15 and 16 of Regulation 2015/757
  • To express views on the draft templates for MRV-related monitoring plans and emission reports from each member’s expertise in verification.
Together with several other stakeholders (industry associations, shipping companies, regulatory authorities, consultants, verifiers, NGOs, etc.), Verifavia will give its opinion on issues related to verification and accreditation.

The topics that will be discussed at this first meeting include:

  • Competencies of the verifiers
  • Assessment of the conformity of the monitoring plan
  • Risk assessment to be carried out by the verifier
  • Documents to be provided by companies to verifiers
  • Scope of accreditation
  • Other accreditation issues
The opinion collected from the stakeholders will feed into the preparatory work for the drafting of the delegated and implementing acts on monitoring, reporting, verification and accreditation of verifiers.
