From 2018, the European Union’s (EU) monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) regulation will require that all vessels over 5,000 gross tonnes must report on fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and transport work for voyages entering EU ports. Measurement of emissions will therefore become mandatory for the approximate
10,000 vessels a year entering EU waters.

By August 2017, companies will have to submit their monitoring plan, indicating the methodology and means chosen to monitor and report emissions and other relevant information for each of their ships.

Norton Rose Fulbright and BLUE Communications will host a Q&A discussion with leaders from across the industry to explore all aspects and ramifications of compliance. This will include evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the four key monitoring methodologies, discussing the ongoing EU consultation to finalise MRV details, exploring verification processes, policing and enforcement – underpinning a debate exploring the potential impact of the regulation for shipping and related industries.
